Hiring a personal trainer is a huge personal investment, so you’re going to want to make sure you make the most of it. While many people embark on their fitness journey thinking that their one or two training sessions a week are the only times they need to show up, that idea couldn’t be further from the truth. In order to completely revolutionise your life and kick your ultimate fitness goals, there’s a few ways you can make the most of your collaboration with a personal trainer. Here’s a few ideas:
Actually show up
While obvious, it’s first and foremost the most vital element of working with your personal trainer. To kick any of your goals and see any sort of improvement, you’re going to need to dedicate a specific segment of your week to training and stick to it. Of course there are times when we simply can’t make it – we might have fallen ill, we might have a school emergency and need to pick up the kids early or anything in between. But making the effort to consistently show up is the fine line between kicking your goals and falling behind.
Communicate
Communication makes the world go round, so be sure to use it well with your personal trainer! From the initial communication, to down the line, it’s so important that you’re open and honest with your personal trainer regarding your goals, how you’re feeling and where you’re at. It could be the difference between achieving your goals, or something as important as making sure you’re not hurting yourself!
Take notes
It might seem counterproductive for some, but for others who are meticulous note-keepers, it might be the key to keeping tabs on your fitness journey. In all likelihood, you’re probably not going to stick with your personal trainer for the rest of your life, so having notes on technique, structure and goals can help you keep track of where you’re at.
Ask questions
It seems overrated, but asking questions is the key to truly understanding. So often, clients waltz into their fitness journey as a newcomer and are too afraid to speak up when they don’t understand a term or something along those lines. Staying silent in those times limits communication, but most importantly, it sets your sessions back by not smoothing out the creases. Ask questions and you’ll find you’re communicating with your personal trainer better than ever!
